Autumn
It’s the Season to Cozy Up!

autumn time to get cozy

When the weather turns crisp like an apple, we naturally start to spend more time indoors.

And even though the furnace gets turned on, there’s something really comforting about pulling on an oversized sweater, a long pair of soft leggings, and some wool socks.

This is also the time of year to change the way you dress your home, whether you’re listing or staying. Roll out the rugs to layer over carpet, incorporate a lot of different textures through the use of throws and pillows, and light your scented candles.

Color palettes shift in the fall too. Bright reds transition to cranberry tones, oranges morph into rusts, yellows turn into golds, and even lavendars become saturated purples. Remember that staging or redesigning your home starts at the curb. Cut back all of your perennials and tuck them in for the winter. Remove all of your tired annuals and replace them with plants featuring an autumn color scheme. Adding a few pumpkins and gourds to window boxes or a planter welcomes visitors at your front door.

Typically when staging inside, it’s best to neutralize any odors and even keep pleasing fragrances from being overpowering. But in the fall, walking into a home that smells of pumpkin spice or apple cinnamon adds to the cozy feeling that you want your visitors to experience.

Sprinkle your fall color palette inside too with a few pops in a pillow, tabletop accessory or some wall art.

If you happen to have a fireplace, stoke it up or turn it on. Note though that if you’re burning real logs, don’t also burn scented candles. The hodge-podge of smells may be too much. Of course with gas fireplaces, go ahead and light those scented candles.

Open up all the curtains and blinds and let in as much natural light as possible. Then add artificial lighting through a few table lamps and a floor lamp that are placed in a triangle shape in your living room. This will brighten up your space and make it look more spacious and inviting!

Lastly, finish accessorizing your coffee table with a stack of hardcover books topped with a cup and saucer. Potential buyers will envision themselves snuggling up with the throw and pillows for a hot tea and a good read.
